The June 2016 Quadrant magazine is out!

The June 2016 edition of Quadrant is now out. I have a piece in there on Sebastian Gorka's Defeating Jihad. It is currently behind a subscriber's wall. It is a pertinent article about the magazine that appeared in Quadrant Online recently: http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2016/05/clive-james-australia-councils/

Glenn Beck is the 'progressive' on the Right

The hubris of Brad Thor and Glenn Beck

American pundit Glenn Beck, along with so many other so-called conservative commentators, has recently destroyed whatever remained of his credibility. He calls Donald Trump "the progressive on the Right" but now we know that this is the pot calling the kettle black. This is truly shocking stuff: http://www.theamericanmirror.com/audio-glenn-beck-brad-thor-discuss-patriot-assassinating-donald-trump/#more-13830

Walter Russell Mead Insighghtfully Explains the Meaning of Mr Trump

The following article from the American Interest by Walter Russell Mead, in my humble opinion, comes closest to understanding the phenomenon of Donald Trump. Even Trump's supporters cannot be 100% sure of whether he is going to do what he says he is going to do, or even what he is going to do in any highly specific way; but they do sense is that the USA (and I would add the West in general) is an express train racing towards the abyss. Trump is the fellow who is pushy enough to push the Emergency Stop button on a carriage full of frightened passengers: http://www.the-american-interest.com/2016/05/23/the-meaning-of-mr-trump/

Walter Russell Mead is the first to say what might soon become accepted wisdom, and so let us have a look at the wikipedia entry for a commentator who deserves his salary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walter_Russell_Mead

Salon magazine gets deep: "Darkness in the human soul is not utility-maximizing" [Whatever]

I find some of the articles in Salon magazine quite entertaining, but perhaps not in the way the writer intended. You don't have to satirize these people for a laugh; just post their "best" stuff. This piece is particularly amusing for all the wrong reasons: http://www.salon.com/2016/05/23/donald_trump_is_going_to_win_this_is_why_hillary_clinton_cant_defeat_what_trump_represents/

How not to defeat Donald Trump #13

Some will argue that Ann Coulter's configuring of the issue is brutal; nevertheless, the evidence suggests it's true. Why is the Democratic Party so keen on the Clintons? Say it ain't so Hillary: http://www.anncoulter.com/columns/2016-05-18.html#read_more

Then, of course, there is this: http://www.wnd.com/2016/05/broaddrick-on-evil-clinton-rape-i-could-never-forgive-them/

If you would like to subscribe to Quadrant magazine

Here is a piece by Keith Windschuttle on the Australian Arts Council subsiding leftwing-progressive magazines while giving nothing to rightwing-conservative enterprises: http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2016/05/australia-councils-revenge/
Interestingly, Quadrant has only ever received a modest amount of government largesse and that, as far as I know, has always gone towards paying for the poets in the magazine. The the services of the rest of us are paid for by subscribers.

Islamofascism never works

Leftism never works

Three propagandists who cheered on Hugo Chavez's ruination of Venezuela

Not even the death of Chavez has saved Venezuela; the insanity continues: http://www.bloomberg.com/view/articles/2016-05-09/catastrophe-is-the-new-normal-for-venezuelans

Here is an article I wrote on the subject in 2012: http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2012/10/commandante-catastrophe/

And in 2013: https://quadrant.org.au/opinion/qed/2013/03/saint-hugo-of-venezuela/

The only upside about Leftism (of any variety) is that time always proves its celebrity apologists wrong and harshest critics right.

Kamzan Kadyrov fighting against the Islamic State?

The Obama administration is making it hard to square the circle. Kamzan Kadyrov is the authoritarian ruler of Chechnya (a mostly Muslim populated autonomous state within the Russian Republic) who claims to be fighting against the Islamic State, while President Obama and Chancellor Merkel fall over themselves to appease the (Islamic) Republic of Turkey, previously an enabler of the Islamic State. Is it time for some kind of paradigm shift in the thinking of we freedomists? Here is the narrative about Kadyrov Vs the IS, though I should like to see all this substantiated further: http://www.reuters.com/article/us-mideast-crisis-syria-russia-idUSKCN0VH0UF

Long-term cooling trend at Adelaide Airport "adjusted" to show significant warming

The inconvenient truth of "secular global warming": The River Thames Frost Fairs

At a special 5th anniversary screening of Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth I (politely) asked, at the Q&A afterwards, why Al Gore never mentioned the long, long history of "secular global warming". The host of proceeding had no answer. Well, I have one. The ends justify the means for our Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming (CAGW) comrades: http://quadrant.org.au/opinion/doomed-planet/2016/05/like-hotter/

Message to Elizabeth Warren: Find your identity through your humanity!

Senator Warren, find your identity through your humanity, not your humanity through an "identity"

I should just like to add my bit to the Elizabeth Warren scandal, which even the Huntington Post corroborates: http://www.huffingtonpost.com.au/entry/scott-brown-elizabeth-warren_n_3587444.html?section=australia
